Boku no Stand

ボクのスタンド

Shijo-Omiya · ¥¥ · Standing bar · Good food · Open from midday

Boku no Stand is a yakitori-centred standing bar one minute from Shijo-Omiya. The ground floor is the standing counter, and there are table seats upstairs if your feet give out. The owner trained at Yanagi Koji TAKA, one of Kyoto's best-known standing bars, and the skewers show it: thick, oversized, and grilled to order. Start with the dodeka liver, the house special. It's ¥99, limited to one per person, and best with salt. After that, work through the other skewers, which mostly cost ¥300–400, and the side dishes. Expect a night here to come to about ¥3,000, a little above the usual senbero budget. It opens at 13:00, so it works as a daytime stop too. It's non-smoking inside. The brand now has other branches in Kyoto and Osaka, but this is the original.
